Mozy Review

Absolutely Unbiased Editor Rating:  8 out of 10

Those needing to back up less than one hundred gigabytes of data will enjoy the fact that using the program will not require the purchase of additional space.

Both signup and installation are covered in this review, including some time spent with the service's   other features.

Risk to the security of uploaded files is minimal to none with the service's security features, which ensure all uploaded files are secured as soon as the customer uploads them to the cloud.

The Signup Process - What You Need To Know

Those wishing to try the service for free can do so by locating the trial sign up on mozy.com/home, or clicking the "Free" link located at the bottom of the service's main page.

A green signup button is easily seen from the service's main page:

Customer Support Experience

Mozy may be unique in that it offers an around-the-clock support team. This team allows customers to access help any time of the day or night by phone or email, as well as via live support. The Mozy service also offers a series of video tutorials, as well as documentation for all of their products and a ticket system for personal support. A Twitter feed is also available on the support page.

Pros

Mozy supports incremental back-ups, which means that only those portions of your files that have changed will be backed up. This significantly increases the efficiency of the back-up.

Users can set a private encryption key for their files as soon as they begin the back-up process, which will be required in the event that files need to be restored. Less experienced users can choose the service's standard encryption level, which protects data at 448 bits.

Backing up your data on more than one device is effortless, thanks to Mozy's "2x" feature. This feature allows for the sending of data to a second drive, such as a USB drive.

The speed at which data is backed up by the service is also impressive. For 10GB of data, complete transfer will require approximately five hours at an upload speed of 570 KB/s.

Cons

Mozy uses a lot of system resources when it's in the process of restoring files to their original locations.

The initial back-up of files will take some time for the service to complete, especially if the back-up source is large.

As well, personal plans are not covered by phone support.
